The internet is full of "Free Online Converters". You upload a file, wait a few seconds, and download the converted version. It seems harmless, but have you ever stopped to think about where your file goes?
The Hidden Cost of Cloud Conversion
When you use a traditional server-side converter, you are uploading your file to someone else's computer.
- Data Retention: Many services keep your files for 24 hours or more.
- Security Risks: Data breaches happen. If their server is hacked, your uploaded photos could be exposed.
- Privacy: We often convert sensitive documents (scans of IDs) or personal family photos. Do you really want an unknown company to have a copy of that?
The LocalImageConverter Difference
This is why we built LocalImageConverter. We use a technology called WebAssembly to run the conversion code inside your web browser.
When you drag a file into our tool, it never leaves your computer. The specific 1s and 0s of your photo are processed by your own CPU, and the result is saved directly to your disk. We couldn't steal your photos even if we wanted to—we never see them.
For sensitive data, client-side processing isn't just a feature; it's a necessity.
