Discord is the heart of gaming chat, but its image uploader can be finicky. Here is how to keep your memes dank and your art crisp.
1. The File Size Limit
Free Users: 25MB limit (used to be 8MB).
Nitro Users: 500MB limit.
If you are a free user trying to upload a 4k screenshot, Discord will yell at you. Use a PNG to JPG converter to shrink that file size instantly.
2. The Best Formats
- JPG: Best for photos and general screenshots. Smallest size.
- PNG: Best for art with transparency.
- GIF: The only way to post animations without Nitro (WebP animations sometimes fail to auto-play on mobile).
3. Formats to Avoid
- HEIC: Discord does NOT support HEIC. If you upload an iPhone photo, it will appear as a downloadable file, not an image preview. Nobody clicks downloadable files (too risky).
- TIFF/BMP: Too big, often blocked.
The Nitro Hack
Don't have Nitro but want to share high-quality images? Convert your heavy PNGs to WebP. Discord supports WebP, and it looks almost identical to PNG but is 30% smaller, helping you stay under the 25MB limit.
