Exporting a PNG? You have two choices. One looks like a GIF, the other looks like a photo. Choose wisely.
The Verdict
**PNG-8 is for simple logos.** It uses a palette (256 colors) like a GIF, making it tiny. **PNG-24 is for complex images.** It uses millions of colors. Always try PNG-8 first; if it looks bad, switch to 24.

PNG-8 is 60-70% smaller. It is the best format for simple icons and flat illustrations.
Transparency
Winner: PNG
PNG-8 has limited transparency support (often binary or limited matte). PNG-24 offers perfect, smooth alpha channels.
Color banding
