BMP files are ancient dinosaurs. PNG is the modern successor. See why switching saves you massive amounts of disk space.
The Verdict
**PNG is strictly superior to BMP.** Both are lossless, but PNG is compressed. A BMP file is like an unzipped ZIP file—it takes up space for no reason.
File Size
Winner: PNG
A 1920x1080 BMP is always approx 6MB. A PNG of the same image might be 500KB. Using BMP is literally wasting hard drive space.
Features
Winner: PNG
PNG supports transparency (alpha channel). BMP (usually) does not. Modern web browsers support PNG. They might not even load a BMP.

They are identical. Both are pixel-perfect. There is zero quality advantage to using BMP.
